West New York

West New York is one of the 4 communities that sits atop the Palisades in Hudson County.  Along with its neighbor North Bergen to the north, the two communities have the largest expanse of land along Boulevard East and its beautiful promenade, with its every-changing views of New York City and the Hudson River.  Its waterfront area named Bulls Ferry prior to the Revolutionary War still exists as such and the town house community of Bulls Ferry, part of the Hovnanian, Jacobs Ferry complex, was built to commemorate the site.

West New York's main and vibrant shopping area along Bergenline Avenue attracts a number of small and successful restaurants, boutiques and shops - many with a Latin influence that has defined the town in the past 20 years and is affectionately known as "Havana on the Hudson."   West New York's Urban Enterprise Zone covers a large portion of Bergenline Avenue from 49th - 67th St. that offers shoppers a reduced sales tax of 3.5% versus the state rate of 7%.  Its waterfront area that runs from The Jacobs Ferry community on the north and runs about a mile south to just above the Port Imperial Ferry has seen one of the largest gentrification redevelopment projects in New Jersey from Industrial to luxury residential.  It's main street of Avenue at Port Imperial features restaurants, shopping and luxury waterfront restaurants as well as the beautiful Hudson River Walkway offering the finest panoramic views of midtown Manhattan and The Hudson River all the way to the Statue of Liberty.  The Macy's Forth of July Fireworks display is frequently set up in barges in the river just opposite West New York, thus making the walkway a prime viewing point for the spectacle.

Bergenline Avenue is currently the longest commercial avenue in the state with over 300 shops and restaurants, running additionally through the towns of Union City, North Bergen  and Guttenberg.  

The waterfront of West New York cpnsists started its redevelopment with the building of the huge Jacob's Ferry project in 1998.  The success of Jacob's Ferry soon led to the development by Roseland of the Riverwalk Rentals.  Grandview at Riverwalk followed in 2005, quickly followed by Grandview 2 in 2007.  Simoltaneously, Roseland converted 24 & 26 Ave. at Port Imperial from rentals to condos and thus the addition of Hudson Club came to fruition.
